Event Details

As the level of renewables on the electricity grid increases, bridging the gap between the supply and demand becomes increasingly challenging. One possible solution is to use surplus renewable electricity for the production of hydrogen. This could then be transformed back into electricity when demand is high, or be used to fuel vehicles. This vision of the future raises a number of questions: how does hydrogen perform compared to other energy storage options; what are efficiencies and costs, and how are they likely to evolve over the next few years; where will hydrogen be produced and how will it be distributed to the point of use; and finally, how have the systems installed to date performed?

The Energy Generation and Supply Knowledge Transfer Network, in collaboration with the Transport KTN, would like to invite you to join us for an event which will give you the opportunity to answer these and many other questions related to integration of hydrogen systems with renewables in the UK and Europe.

By attending the event you will:

  • Build an understanding of the potential for hydrogen to address renewable intermittency;
  • Learn about the market for hydrogen as an energy store, in both stationary and transport applications at different scales;
  • Gain insight into the barriers and drivers for investment in hydrogen hybrid systems, including issues of managing daily and seasonal electricity demand
  • Explore recent UK and European case studies, including domestic hydrogen generation for vehicles refuelling, the first hydrogen station in Greenland and others
  • Update on the development of hydrogen refuelling infrastructure in the UK;

Speakers will include representatives from:

  • ITM-Power
  • PURE Energy Centre
  • Gastec at CRE Ltd.
  • Bryte-Energy Ltd.
  •  Rosklide University, Denmark
  • H2 Logic, Denmark
  • Statoil, Norway

Please be aware places are limited and are allocated on a first come first served basis. Admission will be restricted to registered delegates only. A detailed agenda for the day, together with directions to the venue, will be circulated to registered attendees shortly.

If you are not already a member of the Energy Generation and Supply or Transport KTN, please register here This will allow you to access the multiple benefits of the KTN membership, including workshops and networking events, insights into new funding opportunities and key developments across the landscape and advisory services aimed at facilitating business and technological success. Please make sure you become a member of the fuel cell and hydrogen priority group of the Energy Generation and Supply KTN. This will ensure that you receive updates on future fuel cell and hydrogen events and can access all articles and reports on our pages. Please note that the outputs from this event will be disseminated via the EG&S KTN website.
